National Monument (Monas)

National Monument (Monas) located in the grounds Monas, Central Jakarta, was built in the Republic of Indonesia Independence Day August 17, 1961, in the reign of President Sukarno and was completed and inaugurated in the reign of President Suharto, July 12, 1975. National Monument (Monas) obelisk was built in an area of 80 hectares. Architects of this monument is Silaban and R. Friedrich M. Soedarsono.
National Monument (Monas) was built with the purpose of remembering and preserving the Indonesian struggle for independence during the 1945 revolution, in order to inspire patriotism and spirit of present and future generations.

National monument (Monas) forms have their own meanings based on the philosophy of Indonesian culture, especially Javanese. Monument towering form of a symbol of the phallus (can be interpreted as, male genitalia), whereas the cup-shaped courtyard symbolizes yoni (female genitalia). Phallus and yoni forms can also be interpreted as a rice pestle and mortar, which is a household appliance found in almost every house the indigenous population of Indonesia. The tip of the obelisk monument in the form of tongues of fire which is made of gold weighing 35 kilograms, which is coherent with the bronze weighing 14.5 tons, symbolizing the spirit of struggle of the Indonesian nation is always burned in the fighting and build their country.

National Monument (Monas) very strategic location and easy to reach by the visitors by using various types of public transport. There are side by side with the National Monument (Monas) Gambir railway station, which is also the access of public transport in and out of Jakarta. There is also a busway station right in front of Gambir station, not to mention other public transportation facilities, such as taxis, city buses, bajaj, even motorcycle taxi
